Mid-Century Contemporized Craftsman

This mid-century home had been partially remodeled using Craftsman-era touches. The owners liked some of the finishes but wanted to change others.

Client Objectives:

  • Open up living room to the kitchen in order to create more of a "Great Room" flow
  • Update fireplaces
  • Redecorate

Our Approach:

We opened up some walls; designed a new eating area with custom banquette; updated some surfaces;added lighting fixtures; changed the wood flooring; gave the master bath a mini facelift; updated 3 fireplaces; created a new color palette for the entire home; completely redecorated, including custom designs.

Client Quote:

“We initially met with Jann to gain her assistance and guidance in helping us choose new furniture and redo our 3 fireplaces, but the project grew! Jann ended up helping us integrate interior paint colors for the whole house; choose new flooring, new lighting fixtures, kitchen tile and granite; update the master bath; design custom window treatments, furniture and rugs, and find the accessories that pull it all together – we’re absolutely thrilled with the results!”

Kitchen's New Recycled Glass Backsplash

We chose this glass tile and, from it, the palette for the entire house.  There are tan, bronze, chocolate brown, and some green tiles in this pattern.

Kitchen Island

We added granite counter tops, backsplash and new furniture - which pulled the existing elements together!

Living Room Wall Opening

The solid wall was visually opened by creating a "window" in it.  Now there is an unobstructed view through the day rooms.  New custom furnishings were added and the fireplace was completely transformed.

Living Room - alternate view

The gleaming floors were added, new custom furniture and window treatments, art and accessories.

Dining Room

With a new, rich color palette, a custom wrought iron and glass wall shelf, new furniture and custom window treatments, dining guests don't want to leave the table.

Dining Room Furnishings

A detail of the new furniture, artwork, and custom Tibetan rug.

Master Bath mini facelift

The owners' existing wall-mounted mirror was too low to be functional for them.  We mirrored the entire wall, added a new marble countertop and new plumbing fixtures.  Now they have a useful, beautiful haven.

Kitchen Fireplace from the eating nook

We had the existing fireplace remade into a see-through, double-sided unit that can be enjoyed by both those dining and those in the kitchen.

This space was featured in Seattle Homes & Lifestyles Magazine and had been used as a tiny family room.  We designed the custom L-shaped banquette and upholstered it in a wonderful outdoor fabric.  The new chairs are in easy-care ultrasuede.  New light fixtures complete the mood.
